Virtual and In-person (Raleigh Office)

Welcome! My name is Iris Sun and I am a psychotherapist with Nourish Carolina Counseling in the Raleigh office. I wholeheartedly believe that you are the expert on your own life, and I would be so honored to be a part of your healing journey. My commitment in therapy is to meet you where you are in the experiences and goals you have and had, as well as those hopes you may not yet allow yourself to even think of. The experiences and traumas we carry can take shape in many different ways, and so too does your courage, resiliency, and healing. I aim to create a space that honors your story with empathy and support, and most especially in the places where you may feel the most unseen.

Each of us comes from a dynamic background of being exposed to and/or identifying with various languages and cultural/environmental experiences that uniquely shape our perception and experience in pursuing healing. As such, my core beliefs in building the therapeutic space with you are centered on utilizing a strengths-based, holistic, somatic, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approach. I also integrate a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy (even with my adult clients!), and Art Therapy.

I earned my Masters in Social Work, Social Policy, and Social Administration from The University of Chicago. I am licensed as an LCSW-A in North Carolina (currently pending out of state license transfer). I am additionally DC 0-5 certified. For the past near decade, I have a background of working both in the US and abroad in clinical therapy, community building, advocacy, and also as a former NC public school teacher. My experience has greatly shaped my therapeutic approach that focuses on collaborating with you to create an individualized experience of therapy that honors your whole person with compassion and humility.

I am dedicated to working with individuals of a variety of ages and backgrounds, including children (ages 3-10), and adults (ages 20+). Some of my specializations include, but are not limited to:

  • Trauma

  • Grief/Loss

  • Life Transitions

  • Family Systems

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Eating Disorders

  • Multicultural Counseling

  • Stress Management

I am an introvert who has learned to believe in the power, love, and hope that community and support can bring. It is a sincere joy and privilege to learn your story and be a part of your healing journey.
