My name is Sharyn Leirer, and I am a psychotherapist here at Nourish Carolina Counseling. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and I earned my Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology at the University of Chapel Hill. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (#11795).

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed with focuses on attachment, family-of-origin trauma, neurodivergence and systems of oppression. I’m certified in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and utilize treatment modalities including Polyvagal-Informed Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skill building, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I use mindfulness and body-based treatment approaches with my clients as well as coping skill development around interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. I support my clients in learning how to identify and access cues of safety in order to self-regulate and develop self-trust. Together, we’ll tend to your inner landscape by rewriting old stories, reclaiming the parts of you that have felt silenced, and nurturing a more grounded and self-accepting way of existing.

Sharing your story takes courage. In therapy, we will focus less on fixing and more on remembering who you are beneath the noise. Together, we will make space for your truth, your needs, and the relationships that help you feel alive and connected again.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our two children, going to barre classes, and going to concerts with my friends. I also love stand up comedy and watching scary movies.

Welcome to Nourish Carolina Counseling! I look forward to hearing from you.
